About Me

Welcome — I'm Christina Shafik, the artist behind Bookfell House, a small Australian studio devoted to celebrating the beauty, character, and quiet magic of our native wildlife. My work is inspired by the birds and animals that share our landscapes, from the bold and iconic to the gentle and overlooked.

I work primarily in acrylics, blending traditional painting techniques with raw texture and handmade materials. Alongside stretched canvas, I also paint on 100% Australian cotton handmade paper (completely made by scratch in my studio), combining pulp‑painting methods with acrylic detail to create artworks that are truly one‑of‑a‑kind. Every piece is crafted slowly and intentionally, allowing the individuality of each creature to guide the brushstrokes.

Each painting is an original artwork, created with care, curiosity, and a deep respect for the natural world. My current collection focuses on Australian birds and animals, capturing their personality, spirit, and presence in vibrant colour and expressive texture.

At the heart of my practice is a simple belief: art should bring joy, warmth, and a sense of connection — to nature, to home, and to the stories that shape us. Whether you're a wildlife lover, an art collector, or simply someone who appreciates pieces with heart, I hope you find something here that resonates.

Thank you for visiting Bookfell House.
