About my papermaking - Handmade Cotton Paper

I am a self‑taught artist who works slowly, letting colour, fibre, and instinct shape each piece. My practice lives where acrylic paint meets raw texture, where handmade paper carries the quiet stories of the creatures I paint.

Much of my work begins long before the first brushstroke. I source raw Australian cotton, break it down in my Hollander Beater, and pigment the pulp with lightfast hues. As the water settles, it draws soft, organic shapes through the fibres—patterns that feel like whispers from the natural world. I pull each sheet by hand, from small intimate formats to generous, sweeping surfaces, every one unique in its grain and character.

When I paint, I follow the rhythm of the material. The pulp‑painted textures guide the acrylics; the acrylics reveal the spirit of the animal. Each artwork grows slowly, intentionally, shaped by patience and a deep respect for the wild beings that inspire it.

My process is part craft, part conversation—between cotton and colour, between creature and canvas, between the land I walk and the stories I try to honour.
