 This striking artwork celebrates one of the world’s most iconic extinct birds, capturing its expressive personality, earthy colours, and unmistakably singular presence through detailed brushwork and refined attention to form.

To create this portrait, I aimed for a depiction as close to realistic as possible. I researched the Dodo’s bone structure, studied 3D reconstructions, and referenced the only known painting created while the species still walked the earth. Drawing from this research, I shaped a portrait that feels both historically grounded and full of life. As I painted the layered brown and black feathers, the pale eye, and the gentle curve of the beak, his poised and curious attitude slowly revealed itself. By the final highlight in his eye, his personality felt complete - quietly proud, gentle, and full of charm.
