I chose to paint this little Variegated Fairywren set in the green of the trees, a colour palette that enhances its vibrant blues and orange plumage. I had so much fun painting this little male. I wanted to capture his vibrant blues and delightful personality. As I painted the layered blue feathers, chestnut shoulders and round little body, I found his grumpy little attitude - something that revealed itself the longer I painted. This portrait invites viewers to appreciate the wonderful and precious character of our Fairywrens, making it a standout piece for lovers of Australian bird art and nature‑inspired home décor.
